Andy Burnham has offered to meet with unions in a bid to break a 'stalemate' in talks over pay for tram drivers if they call off the Metrolink strike next week.

But a union spokesperson has said the strikes are set to go ahead as planned. Strike action has been scheduled over the weekend of June 10 and 11, which means that tram services will be affected while Parklife festival is on at Heaton Park.

Other events that would be disrupted include Soccer Aid at Old Trafford, Roger Waters at the AO Arena and The Weeknd at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking on BBC Radio Manchester this morning (June 1), Mr Burnham said pay talks between Unite and Metrolink operator KeolisAmey have reached a 'stalemate' so he is now willing to get involved in the process.
