'You don't believe it?' - Why Man United 'transfer target' Sander Berge missed Burnley fixture

Burnley head coach Scott Parker said midfielder Sander Berge missed Monday night's 4-1 win over Luton Town through injury amid speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Norwegian was a notable absentee from the matchday squad as Burnley made a brilliant start to the new Championship campaign. He has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past week or so, with his absence from the squad fuelling speculation further.

However, he missed the clash with the Hatters, who were also relegated from the Premier League last season, as a result of an ongoing quad injury. Reports elsewhere have suggested United are 'in talks' with the Turf Moor club to sign the midfielder.

Despite ongoing speculation, Parker insisted the 26-year-old missed out because of an injury he suffered during the club's pre-season trip to Spain.

Parker told the media: "It is a fitness issue, yes. Sander picked up a knock about a week, 10 days ago. It's not too big, it's a slight knock.

"Hopefully he is on the mend now and hopefully, in the coming days, he will be back with us and training. He has got a little, slight quad injury at the moment.

"I sense that you [the reporter] are asking that question because you don't believe that he is injured? He has definitely got an injury.
