Chido Obi-Martin to Man United transfer latest as wonderkid sends message

An update has been provided on Chido Obi-Martin as Manchester United look to secure a deal.

The 16-year-old grabbed headlines in April after scoring seven goals in a remarkable 9-0 victory for Arsenal's under-18s team. Obi-Martin netted a total of 32 goals at U18s level for the Gunners, including five against West Ham United, four against Crystal Palace and another four against Fulham.

In doing so, Obi-Martin has broken Folarin Balogun's record of most goals scored for Arsenal U18s in a season, previously set at 25 during the 2018/19 campaign. But his contract has expired at the Emirates Stadium with United reaching an agreement to sign the talented teenager.

However, despite his contract with the Gunners expiring, United cannot complete a deal until a fee is paid to Arsenal due to his age. MEN Sport understands that the club are currently waiting for Premier League approval.

And German journalist Christopher Michel has reported the latest on Obi-Martin's situation. He claims that a deal with Arsenal is 'very complicated' amid links with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

"Although Chido Obi-Martin's contract at #Arsenal has expired, I heard that #MUFC can't just sign him on a free transfer," he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Very complicated... He is therefore only training individually and has not yet been presented. Possibly this will go before a court."
