Wolves chief outlines transfer plan as January signing confirmed
Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of winger Jeong Sang-bin.
The 19-year-old has joined the club on a permanent deal before heading straight out on loan to Swiss club Grasshopper on an 18-month loan deal.
Jeong has joined from K-League club Suwon Samsung Bluewings after breaking into the first team of the club in the last season.
He also made his breakthrough on the international stage, scoring on his full international debut for South Korea in a 5-0 win over Sri Lanka back in June.
The teenager becomes Bruno Lage ’s third signing of the January window following the capture of Hayao Kawabe, who has also joined Grasshoppers on loan, and winger Chiquinho.
Jeong’s international teammate Hee Chan Hwang has also completed a permanent move to Molineux after impressing on loan.
Following the confirmation of the arrival, Wolves technical director Scott Sellars explained the thinking behind sending him straight out on loan.
“Sang-bin is a young, raw talent, who has done very well for his club and national team whilst still only a teenager,” he told the club’s official website.
“We hope to provide him an opportunity to develop and grow as a player, and a person, in Zurich with Grasshoppers, before returning in the future.
“We’ve already seen how this process can benefit a player like Toti Gomes, and we are looking forward to seeing what Sang-bin can achieve in the Swiss league, and then at Wolves.”
Gomes has spent the last 18 months on loan with Grasshopper, impressing in the Swiss league.
He returned to Wolves earlier this month, playing the full 90 minutes of Premier League games against Southampton and Brentford.
