Virals: Liverpool make ‘proposal’ for Brazil ace Matheus Cunha

Liverpool have reportedly made an ‘official proposal’ for Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha.

The Reds are believed to be keen on the 22-year-old and could act on their interest in the foreseeable future.

Signed from Hertha Berlin in 2021 for €25millon (ESPN), Cunha has started only three times in La Liga this season.

According to a report from Spanish outlet AS, as cited by Sport Witness on Twitter, Liverpool could make their move for the Brazilian.

The report claims that the Anfield club has a ‘strong interest’ in the four-cap ace and are ‘willing to make an effort’ to make the deal happen.

Cunha – described as ‘unpredictable’ by Maurizio Jaccobacci – has scored five times and provided three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £27million and under contract at Wanda Metropolitano until 2026 (Transfermarkt), signing the Brazilian would be an expensive venture.

However, with the long-term future of Robert Firmino on Merseyside in doubt, Cunha has to be considered as the ideal successor.

Predominantly operating centrally in a front three, the former RB Leipzig man has all the makings of a Jurgen Klopp striker.

Whilst it’s unlikely the move unfolds in the final days of the window – although the same was said regarding Luis Diaz – this could be an interesting one to watch in the summer.
