Journalist hints at Derby County’s transfer plans

Derbyshire Live’s chief football writer Steve Nicholson has hinted that the club are eyeing attacking additions as they weigh up whether to bring in some free agents or not.

The Rams have been restricted to only signing free agents and loans this season and as a result they have seen their business become very scarce due to the financial uncertainty that surrounds the Pride Park side.

A potential takeover is still in the pipeline at present and is a sticking point when it comes to transfers – with a deal being struck offering Derby the chance to potentially bring in some extra players to add depth to their paper thin squad.

Now Nicholson has offered a hint over which areas of the squad Wayne Rooney could be looking to strengthen as he stated the following recently:

“Nor would I be surprised to see possible attacking options on the list. Managers tend to keep lists of targets close to their chest.”

The only player that Derby ‘brought in’ was Luke Plange, with the Rams selling their young striker to Crystal Palace before bringing him back on loan until the end of the season.

Meanwhile the likes of Graeme Shinnie, Phil Jagielka, David Marshall, Dylan Williams and Sam Baldock all left the club for sides elsewhere.

The Verdict

It will be interesting to see if Rooney even gets the chance to sign some players on short term deals as takeover talks aren’t really progressing in the way that many people want.

Until that issue is sorted, the Rams are left in constant limbo and will simply have to keep focusing on winning every game between now and the end of the season.

They have been fighting against the odds for the whole of the campaign so far and the players have certainly been a credit to the club.

Whoever Rooney brings in
