"What can you say after that?" - Vale of Leven boss after 7-6 Lesmahagow loss

Boss Brian Brown was left speechless as his side scored six times against Lesmahagow - but still left without a point.

The Vale raced into a 3-0 lead after just five minutes against one of the title favourites.

Lesmahagow hit back - narrowing the gap to just one goal, before Vale opened up a 6-3 lead with just over an hour gone.

However a remarkable final nine minutes saw the Gow net four times to snatch all three points.

Shellshocked gaffer Brian said: “What can you say after that? I honestly can’t believe what I watched.

“I don’t think I’ve been involved in a game like that since under-10s football.

“It was like a wee boys’ game, none of the two teams looked like they wanted to defend.

“We’ve got a wee bit of work to do at one end, and the rest of it looks not too bad.

“To take the positives, we’ve come away to one of the best teams in the league and scored six goals.

“But the negatives are glaringly obvious.”

The Vale started brightly and, after Martin Connolly had skewed wide from a good position, they took the lead inside two minutes.

Richie Stewart’s low cross was only half cleared and dropped to Greg Thackrey, who drilled into the net.

It was 2-0 just a minute later.

A sharp move saw Stewart release Ross Cameron, who blasted a superb finish high beyond the Gow keeper.

The Vale support couldn’t believe what they were watching when Alexandria side added a third inside the first six minutes of the game.

Adam Monaghan - playing just hours after returning from a holiday in Florida - found Ethan Furze, who cut inside a defender and curled high into the net.

That looked to finally be the wakeup call the hosts - who had been unfortunate to miss out on promotion last season - needed.
