Wayne Rooney won't be joined by family as Man United great makes big decision after landing new job

Coleen Rooney will not be joining her husband and Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney in Plymouth following his appointment as the new head coach of Plymouth Argyle.

The former England star, aged 38, has taken on the challenge to propel the team towards Premier League ambitions. Speaking at a press conference in Plymouth on Thursday, July 4, Manchester United hero Rooney confirmed that Coleen would remain behind due to their children's needs.

Addressing a question from sports reporter Amy Christophers, who appeared on Married At First Sight, about whether his wife would relocate, he said: "No, she won't be."

Rooney highlighted the significance of stability for his eldest son, both in education and football, saying: "I think my children, my eldest son, is at a really important stage of his life, football as well as school."

He acknowledged the sacrifices involved in his career choice: "Of course you miss them, but this is my job; this is what I want to do, so you have to sacrifice certain things in order to be the best you can be."

Despite the distance, Rooney plans to maintain close contact with his family: "I'll see them as much as I can.".

His tenure at Home Park began this week, marking his first role since his departure from Birmingham City in January after a brief 83-day stint.
