Man United next transfer could be delayed after serious Bayern Munich injury blow

Manchester United could encounter another delay in their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt after fellow Bayern Munich defender Hiroki Ito suffered a broken foot.

De Ligt, 24, has verbally agreed personal terms regarding a move to Old Trafford, but United and Bayern are still apart in their valuation for the Netherlands regular. Ineos are open to signing up to three centre-backs this summer. French youngster Leny Yoro is already on board, while De Ligt and Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite are the other main defensive targets for United.

However, getting those proposed deals over the line is, largely, dependent on outgoings. United are also involved in a 'transfer triangle' with Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen, who could sell Jonathan Tah to their Bundesliga rivals to allow De Ligt to finalise his proposed switch to the Premier League.

Bayern were in pre-season action on Sunday afternoon. However, the 1-1 draw with FC Duren was overshadowed by an injury to Ito, who is expected to be side-lined for several months while his metatarsal recovers.

"It's obviously a very bitter blow," said Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl post-match. "We'll give Hiroki the best support so that he's back fully fit on the pitch as soon as possible."

A report from Fabrizio Romano - plus various international sources - indicate Tah is the prime target for Bayern this summer.
