Two Wesley Fofana moments in contention to define Leicester City's season

Brendan Rodgers’ cautious message over Wesley Fofana may be correct, but it doesn’t mean he cannot turn Leicester City’s season on its head.

In announcing the French defender would play his comeback game against Rennes, Rodgers urged fans and the player himself not to let their expectations get too high. Seven months is a long injury. It would take him time, until the start of next season, for him to be back to the level he was playing before his injury.

That will probably be true, but the bar is so high for Fofana that even if he is weeks away from his best, his comeback could be the defining moment of the campaign. Because up to now, the defining moment, the one that explains so much of City’s season, is the horror injury that he suffered against Villarreal back in August.

The two biggest flaws in City’s season have been instability in the back-line and woeful set-piece defending. Even short of his peak, Fofana fixes both of those.

While it seems any injury could be around the corner when you're a Leicester player, his comeback, and his ability to get through nearly a full game immediately shows he is ready to go. After the international break, he is likely going to be able to play nearly every single game. Having a consistent back-line is crucial, so knowing Fofana is going to play will rid the side of nervousness that has wracked them during the enforced changes over the past few months.
