Wesley Fofana ‘a little nervous’ for Leicester City first two years in the making

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is ready to do something he has not yet done in his time at the club - play in front of a full capacity King Power Stadium.

The centre-back is coming up to two years at the club since joining from French side St Etienne back in the summer of 2020. He put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with the club just a few weeks ago.

But, the Covid pandemic during last season meant that his first season as a City player was mainly played behind closed doors. His first experience of playing in front of Foxes fans was the FA Cup final, with just over 6,000 fans from both teams in attendance at Wembley Stadium.

The final game of the season was also played in front of supporters at the King Power Stadium, but restrictions meant that only 8,000 could be in attendance for the game against Tottenham. Fofana started that match but left the pitch early due to injury.

With full stadium capacity permitted from the start of the 2021/22 season, the defender was set to make his bow in front of a full King Power Stadium for the first time in August. However, the 21-year-old suffered a broken leg and ankle ligament damage in the final friendly of pre-season against Villarreal.

After seven months of rehabilitation, Fofana was set to make his comeback in the Europa Conference home leg against Rennes, only for a positive Covid test to put an end to that. He made his first appearance of the season in the away leg a week later, scoring what turned out to be the winning goal.

The defender started his first Premier League game of the season at Old Trafford at the weekend, playing the full 90 minutes. He is now set to play in front of a packed-out home for the first time on Thursday as PSV Eindhoven visit in the
