Traffic 'gridlocked' in Bury after car flips with emergency services on scene - live updates

Traffic is reportedly 'gridlocked' around Bury after a car flipped over in a crash with emergency services on the scene this evening.

A car appears to have crashed and rolled onto its side on Bolton Road westbound, close to the Bridge Trading Estate.

Fire crews can be seen at the scene of the collision, with a number of people reporting traffic chaos in the area due to the car 'in the middle of the road'.

Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for more details.

This is a breaking incident. Updates below.

The traffic has cleared this evening. This marks the end of our live coverage.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At shortly before 2.30pm this afternoon (Wednesday, 18 October), firefighters were called to attend a road traffic collision on Bolton Road, Bury involving one car.

“One fire engine from Bury quickly arrived and crews worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately 25 minutes at the scene.”

An update from the AA says there is congestion building on the A56 Manchester Road northbound between the A56 and A58 Angouleme Way.

Witnesses have said fire crews were seen working on the flipped over car tonight. One person said they saw parts of the car being 'cut' out.

We are still awaiting statements from Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
