LIVE: Stretch of M6 shut after serious crash with air ambulance on scene - latest updates
A stretch of the M6 is fully shut this afternoon after a serious crash.
The northbound stretch of the motorway at junction 23 for the A580 near Golborne is currently closed off. Emergency services, including the air ambulance, are on the scene.
'Severe' delays are building. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

A tweet posted by National Highways said: "The #M6 in #GreaterManchester is closed between J22 and J23 (#HaydockIsland) due to a serious collision. Emergency services are en route, including the Air Ambulance.
"More information to follow soon. Thank you for your patience."

Northbound congestion is said to be back to the Croft Interchange.
Traffic is also said to be queuing through parts of Winwick, Ashton-in-Makerfield and Lowton as drivers continue to avoid the motorway.

"The M6 in Greater Manchester is closed northbound between J22 (Winwick) & J23 (Haydock Island) due to a serious road traffic collision involving 2 Heavy Goods Vehicles and a car.
