Tottenham: Jose Mourinho 'wants to take' £15m star from Hotspur Way

Jose Mourinho wants to bring Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Roma, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Mourinho signed the Denmark international when he was manager of Spurs just under two years ago and Jones believes that a reunion in the Italian capital could be on the cards in the summer.

Just months after Mourinho was appointed as the new Roma boss after his sacking at Tottenham, reports emerged that he wanted Hojbjerg to join him at the Stadio Olimpico.

He had been one of Spurs’ most consistent players last season, but the ex-Southampton midfielder stayed in north London having only joined 12 months earlier.

Hojbjerg has continued to be a mainstay in the team under Antonio Conte, starting all-but two top-flight games this season, and one of those he missed was due to a positive Covid-19 test.

But the Mirror believe that he’s now attracting attention from Newcastle and is ‘high’ on Eddie Howe’s wish-list. The report says the Toon Army could make a £30m move for his services, which is double the £15m that Tottenham paid Southampton in 2020.

Meanwhile, Jones says that a switch to Serie A and a reunion with Mourinho could happen for the 26-year-old.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “One thing I’m hearing on Hojbjerg is that Jose Mourinho quite fancies taking him to Roma.

“Next season Jose intends to ask the board to back his vision as he thinks they can make a real push at the top of Serie A – and Hojbjerg could be a great asset.”
