Tottenham have 'good chance of competing' for £50m star at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur would have a ‘good chance’ of rivalling Manchester City for Alessandro Bastoni’s signature, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old over the summer before he ended up staying put with Inter Milan, yet speculation over his long-term future has arisen once again.

Back in June, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham and Manchester United were eager to prise Bastoni away from San Siro following a couple of outstanding campaigns.

The Italy international has previously worked under the north London outfit’s manager Antonio Conte during his time at Inter, but he ended up staying put with his agent declaring he is happy in his current surroundings.

“Bastoni will stay at Inter for sure. He has a contract and he’s happy with Inter – there’s no problem,” he said via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

However, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have now claimed that United and their local rivals City are set to test the centre-back’s desire to remain in his homeland once more.

It’s stated that Inter will demand £50 million for Bastoni, who has just over 18 months left to run on his £122,000-per-week contract.

When asked if Tottenham will be concerned by City’s interest in Bastoni, Jones informed GiveMeSport that he believes the capital club will fancy their chances of competing for his services.

He said: “In the past, I think they’d have probably feared the worst. But right now, I think that they would have reason to still be willing to go head-to-head for something like this.
