Liverpool: £130k-a-week star now 'open-minded' over deal at Anfield

Liverpool star Naby Keita is seeking assurances over his long-term role ahead of signing a new deal at Anfield and the uncertainty over the midfielder’s future has led to several clubs ‘monitoring’ his situation, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Reds smashed their transfer record during the summer window, having spent £85million on Darwin Nunez, but boss Jurgen Klopp could now turn his attentions towards tying key players down to fresh contracts.

Keita’s £130,000-per-week deal is due to expire next summer and, with the possibility of being able to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas suitors at the turn of the year, clubs are taking an interest.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Borussia Dortmund are among up to four clubs tracking the 27-year-old and are ready to pounce if he becomes a free agent.

The respected Italian journalist suggests Keita, a 46-cap Guinea international, is seeking assurances from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and his future will be decided in the coming months.

It is understood that the central midfielder is unhappy after talks over a contract extension broke down last month.

Keita’s only appearance of the season came against Manchester City in the Community Shield, with a hamstring injury forcing him onto the sidelines.

Jones believes Keita has entered a pivotal period and numerous clubs across the continent are keeping tabs on the internal negotiations at Liverpool.

The transfer insider feels the Guinean is willing to put pen-to-paper and commit his future to the Merseyside giants if Klopp assures him he has a long-term role at Anfield.
