Tottenham: £74k-a-week star has 'genuine chance' of key role at Hotspur Way

Tottenham‘s Matt Doherty has a “genuine chance” of enjoying a long run in the team, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The £74,000 per-week star had found himself on the bench for every game before Antonio Conte finally picked him from the off at Brighton last week.

Having struggled after recovering from a knee injury sustained at Aston Villa in April, the former Wolves man hardly had a look in during the opening few months of the season.wing

In fact, prior to the north London derby, his only game-time came as a late substitute against Southampton on the opening day.

But with Djed Spence still not being considered by Conte, Emerson Royal's red card in the defeat at Arsenal has given Doherty the perfect chance to impress.

And Doherty has done exactly that, playing the 90 minutes in the wins over Brighton and Everton, which might see him overtake the Brazilian in the right wing-back pecking order.

Doherty could make a third league start on the bounce at Manchester United on Wednesday, which could prove key to his chances of keeping his place when Royal returns next weekend.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think he's got a genuine chance of staying in the team for a few weeks, but I do think Conte is likely to rotate those positions when he can because I think he was very clear that he wanted two in each wing-back role and that both of those players would get chances in the summer.

"So, I think you'll see a bit of rotation there still for the rest of the season."

For the first time this season, Tottenham are enjoying having an outlet from both flanks and that was evident once again in the win over the Toffees.
