Tottenham have 'much better chance' of Man Utd win if Christian Eriksen is out

Tottenham Hotspur would have a much better chance of beating Manchester United on Wednesday night if Christian Eriksen misses out for the hosts, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte’s side drew level on points with second-placed Manchester City on Saturday and will be hoping to maintain their form.

Eriksen missed United’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon following his free transfer to Old Trafford in the summer.

It was later revealed that he was absent through illness while Erik ten Hag revealed he ‘didn’t know’ if he would be available for Wednesday. Anthony Martial’s current status also remains unknown after being withdrawn against Everton.

Scott McTominay will be back available for the hosts, however, after serving a one-match ban for picking up five yellow cards.

Meanwhile, Conte will have to make do without Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski although neither are expected to be absent for much longer.

Jones believes Eriksen’s potential absence could hand the player’s former club a boost in midweek.

The journalist says the Dane has taken up a new role with the Red Devils but has quickly become an integral part of Ten Hag’s set-up, starting in each of their Premier League clashes prior to Newcastle.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “He [Eriksen] does play a very different role for United to the one he used to play at Tottenham. But, there's no doubt about it, that if he doesn't play, then Spurs have a much better chance of winning this game.”
