Tottenham are giving Man City what Pep Guardiola asked for in the Premier League title race

Ange Postecoglou joked after Tottenham's Friday night win over Crystal Palace that all he needed to do to keep Spurs at the top of the Premier League was copy Pep Guardiola.

Postecoglou has led Tottenham to an unbeaten start to the season, amassing an impressive 26 points from their opening 10 games. They are top and will stay there this weekend. Postecoglou is in a position to be all smiles given his side lead the pack a quarter of the way through the season.

But while City could end the weekend as low as fifth if results go against them, an early pacesetter could give them the focus Guardiola has asked for twice already this season. After winning the treble last season, City players started the campaign plotting how to make 2023/24 even better than last year.

Phil Foden and Jack Grealish wanted to win the quadruple - but that dream died in Newcastle and Guardiola was almost angry when he was asked about the chances of winning four trophies after the game at St James' Park. "You think the target was the quadruple?"

Kyle Walker wanted to 'blow' the league away and dominate from the start, rather than play catch-up in the new year. Spurs' form, and City's back-to-back defeats earlier this month mean that won't happen just yet either.

Now, Walker fired a telling shot towards Manchester United by reminding them that a derby win means little when City went on to win the treble last season. His message - City have far bigger goals than simply beating United.
