Rico Lewis can prove Man City boss Pep Guardiola right yet again this week
Manchester City youngster Rico Lewis has received his first call-up to the senior England squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
Lewis has earned his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad after an impressive breakthrough campaign last term and a solid start to the current season. The 18-year-old came through the academy at City after joining the Blues at the age of just eight. He has since earned medals in the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.
The youngster’s breakthrough campaign saw him play numerous roles in Pep Guardiola's side, a facet of his game Guardiola often looks for in his players.

Lewis has played in both midfield and defence for City, just as John Stones has done in recent months. The academy graduate became City’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League last term, demonstrating his threat going forward.
He has made 10 appearances in all competitions for City this season and has been described as an "exceptional player" by Guardiola. Since his debut against Bournemouth last season, Lewis has cemented himself in the first-team squad. While he faces tough competition from Kyle Walker, his versatility means he is already a key player in the team.
Southgate has plenty of options at right-back, with Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier also selected for the latest round of internationals. So how could Southgate look to use Lewis over the coming week?
