Tonbridge Angels set to celebrate the life of Devonte Aransibia at their National League South home game against Chippenham

Tonbridge Angels are set to celebrate the life of former midfielder Devonte Aransibia this weekend.

It’s “Devonte Day” at Longmead on Saturday as Angels host Chippenham in National League South (3pm).

Aransibia’s family will be in attendance and are asking supporters to wear green in memory of the ex-Angels footballer, who died a year ago aged just 26.

His young son, Santiago, will lead the teams out as mascot.

“There’s a lot of sadness around it but also positive memories and we want the day to be a celebration.

“The family have been very touched because they know our fans have a Devonte chant, which they do at every game, so that’s something that’s helped them and brought them a lot of comfort.

“It’s very difficult but a way of remembering him.

“We started the Devonte Aransibia young person of the year award for our end-of-season awards night, so that continues, and that’s for a young person around the club who’s gone that extra mile, be it a player or volunteer.

“Devonte’s family will be at our end-of-season awards again to present that award.

“It’s just things to keep him in everybody’s mind and we’re looking
