Hythe Town manager Andy Drury signs versatile duo Dan Thompson and Tom Hanfrey to boost Cannons’ survival bid
Hythe Town manager Andy Drury has completed two more signings to help the Cannons’ survival fight.
Dan Thompson, whose former clubs include Chatham, Margate and AFC Croydon, is on board at Reachfields.
And he’s been joined by Tom Hanfrey, who arrives at the Southern Counties East Premier Division relegation battlers from Sevenoaks.
Thompson was an unused substitute as Hythe lost 5-0 at high-flying Fisher last weekend but will have a big part to play moving forward, and Hanfrey is another good addition.
“I’ve known Thommo for a few years,” said Drury, who takes Town to Tunbridge Wells on Saturday (3pm).
“He’s come in and we’ve signed Tom Hanfrey as well.
“Thommo can play centre-half or up top. He’s a good character and a player who will add something to the group, and the same goes for Tom.
“He can play centre-half, left-back or midfield. He’s very good for the level, he’ll add a bit of height, physicality and quality with his left foot.
“I’m looking forward to working with them both.
“We’ll try and bring in one or two more this week and hopefully that will be us done until the end of the season.
“If we can do that, that’ll make us stronger and we’ll see if we can get one or two injured players back as well.”
Robbie Dolan, Olu Oluwatimilehin and Callum Morris were unavailable for the Fisher game, while Will Dempsey (leg), Jack Hanson (hamstring) and Monty Saunders (knee) went off injured.
The Cannons trailed 2-0 inside four minutes against an in-form home side who pulled clear after the break.
It was a setback after back-to-back wins and they’re seven points from safety with eight games remaining.
“We had a couple of big players missing, Fisher had won six in a row and were flying,” said Drury.
