Maidstone United manager George Elokobi reiterates need to strengthen squad after 2-1 National League South defeat at Maidenhead
George Elokobi reiterated his call for help following Maidstone’s injury-time defeat at Maidenhead.
Stones boss Elokobi spoke of the need for reinforcements after Mo Faal and Nathan Harness suffered injuries during the midweek victory over Weston-super-Mare.
And he doubled down in the aftermath of a 2-1 loss at National League South play-off rivals Maidenhead on Saturday, the visitors going down to an injury-time penalty.
Maidstone were again unable to name a full bench, with Elokobi limited to five substitutes, including academy goalkeeper Chris Swift.
On top of that, Jamie Yila - feeling the effects of sickness and diarrhoea - had to come off before half-time.
Faal has had a scan on his knee, with the results expected by Wednesday, while United are following concussion protocols with goalkeeper Harness.
“I’ve said it time and again, the squad needs help,” said Elokobi.
“Jamie Yila had been ill. He’s had diarrhoea for the last two days. He’s not managed to shake it off. That’s why he had to come off. He’s been vomiting, and it’s difficult.
“At this stage of the season, we need more. I need more.
“I need to help the players out, or else we’re going to suffer a lot of injuries. Players are running on empty and it shouldn’t be like this at this stage of the season.
“It’s a difficult one. I’ve got to deal with what I’ve got. However, we’ve got to look at it.
“I don’t know how many bodies we’re going to have on Tuesday (Dagenham at home).
“It’s not an excuse but we’re going to keep going, I’m going to keep going. That’s all I know.”
