Maidstone United 2 Dagenham & Redbridge 1 match report: Hamzad Kargbo and David Agbontohoma the scorers as Stones rally for National League South victory

Maidstone came from behind to win a league game for the first time in a year on Tuesday night.

They trailed to an early goal from Dagenham’s Joe Haigh but won 2-1 thanks to Hamzad Kargbo and defender David Agbontohoma.

United last overturned a deficit in National League South in March 2025, coming from 2-1 down to beat Salisbury 3-2 at the Gallagher.

Victory boosts the Stones’ play-off hopes after the blow of Saturday’s injury-time defeat at Maidenhead.

Lenny Holden, continuing in goal in the absence of Nathan Harness, came off his line to make an outstanding save after Haigh released Harvey Broad in the opening stages.

George Fowler had an effort blocked by Corey Panter at the other end before the Daggers took a 10th-minute lead with another one of those restart goals that drive the management mad.

Riley Court swung over a corner and the recalled Kargbo rose highest in the middle of the six-yard box to nod home.

United went on to lead in the 21st minute.

Skipper Sam Corne kept the ball alive on the right and played a cross towards Kargbo at the back post.

It fell to Fowler, who clipped the ball back across goal to Agbonothoma, and his header beat Sam Howes for his first Stones goal.

Court, having set up a goal, kept one out at the other end by getting back on the line to deny Christian Maghoma.

Goalscorer Kargbo, already booked and on a final warning, was withdrawn at the break, replaced by Deon Moore.

Corne’s rasping 25-yard drive, after being found in space by Tanga, forced a good save from Howes past the hour mark.

Minutes later, Tanga’s goalbound effort
