Tonbridge Angels manager Alan Dunne says Kent Senior Cup final success against Maidstone United would be a fantastic end to the season

Alan Dunne is hoping history repeats itself when Tonbridge take on Maidstone in the Kent Senior Cup final.

It’s 51 years since Angels last won the competition and, on that occasion, they beat the Stones 2-1 to lift the trophy under England World Cup winner George Cohen.

The local rivals meet in this season’s final at Priestfield Stadium tonight (7.30pm), with Tonbridge securing the home dressing room.

Manager Dunne is aiming to finish the campaign with silverware after leading Tonbridge to National League South safety.

“I’d love to win it,” said Dunne. “We haven’t won it since 1975.

Priestfield is a ground Dunne knows well from his days with Millwall and battles with Gillingham.

It’s a bonus to be playing the final at a Football League ground and it’s bound to capture the imagination of supporters, with ticket sales closing at 5pm yesterday.

“I scored there,” said Dunne. “I played there a few times in my career. It was always a great place to play, always hostile, the Gillingham v Millwall games.

“I’ve had some great memories of playing there and we’ve got the home changing room.

“Tonbridge v Maidstone, it’s a rivalry, both teams will want the bragging rights and we want to bring the cup back to the Angels.
