Tonbridge Angels manager Alan Dunne on Truro City challenge and setting points targets for his side in National League South
Tonbridge Angels have already taken the scalp of one relegated side this season - and now they’re after another.
Angels host Truro City at Longmead on Saturday (3pm), with the visitors making the long journey from Cornwall to Kent.
The Tinners, National League South champions in 2025, are back at Step 2 after one year in the National League but, crucially, have kept hold of manager John Askey.
A round trip of nearly 600 miles awaits the Cornish club, who have taken four points from their opening two games, while on Tuesday they beat Southampton U21s 2-1 in the National League Cup.
Tonbridge thumped Braintree - also just down from the National League - 4-0 away on the opening day and manager Alan Dunne is keen to see what his side can do against Truro.
Angels are looking for their third win of the season, having won 1-0 at Kent rivals Dover in midweek.
“I know a couple of their players,” said Dunne.
“Similar to Braintree, they’ve just come down, so they’ll have that league-above experience, they’ll be a physical side, no doubt, and not one to be taken lightly.
“I don’t think we, from winning two games, can go and take a team lightly because football will bite you on the backside very quickly if you do that.
“We have to be at our best to have a chance to compete and that’s what I’ll be saying to the boys.
“I don’t think we are ones to be complacent, I want us to be humble and to keep working on the performance because the result will take care of itself if we get that right.
“I really hope they travel on the day but I can’t see it!
“We got the bus to Torquay on the day of the game last season and got a result but Truro’s a bit further on.
“It can be done but I’d imagine they’ll come down the night before.
“We’ll be prepped
