Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth praises the owners for putting extra money into the playing budget after selling Sam Gale and Seb Palmer-Houlden this summer – Three new players wanted before the transfer deadline

Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth wants at least three more additions - and has thanked the owners for their financial backing.

Ainsworth says that chairman Brad Galinson has allowed him extra funds to use following the sale of defender Sam Gale and forward Seb Palmer-Houlden, two players who have moved on this summer for undisclosed fees.

The Gills boss wants to replace both players and an injury to captain Liam Gordon has increased the need to bring in an additional centre-half.

“Brad [Galinson] has been very, very generous,” said the Gills boss.

“We make money on players and he's very aware - he goes, ‘OK, that's great. We've made money on players, but I want to give you back to invest into the place, into the team, into the squad’.

“He's been super generous for this football club since he walked in.

“I know looking back for the three years or so he's been here, I've seen the figures and what this club was in. What a mess, honestly and how they've got them out of it.

“The Galinsons have been fantastic for this club and they're still being fantastic. I'm really proud and pleased to work for them because they’re very understanding, saying, ‘Yeah, great deal, and we'll give you some money back to get, to replace and to do things’.

“Even losing Liam, he and Shannon [Galinson], they're both understanding that happens sometimes and we understand that happens [and say] ‘Yes, of course you can replace him.’

“We can't go and pay millions of pounds but we can get replacements and the support is really good from them.
