Hampton & Richmond 1 Maidstone United 4 match report: Tom Leahy (2), Leone Gravata and Riley Court earn big National League South away win

Tom Leahy scored twice and set up the other two goals as Maidstone thumped Hampton & Richmond at the Beveree.

The Stones were rewarded for a superb display of counter-attacking football in claiming a fourth win in their last five National League South matches.

Leahy and Leone Gravata opened up a two-goal lead and while Zanda Siziba replied, Leahy’s second and a Riley Court strike completed a handsome away victory.

Alfie Tuck replaced weekend match-winner Ryan Hanson, while Jayden Davis made his first start in place of Ken Charles in a Stones side showing two changes from the victory over Salisbury.

With Charles rested, that meant a start through the middle for Leahy, and he took his chance with a classy opening goal in the 12th minute for Craig Fagan’s side.

It was counter-attacking football at its best as Court picked out the run of Gravata from the edge of his own area.

Gravata had space to work with before releasing Leahy, who’d held his run perfectly, before latching on to the pass and beating Hampton goalkeeper Marco Underwood.

Maidstone had already created a couple of decent chances before the opening goal, with Court’s cross turned on to the post by a Hampton defender as Gravata looked to pounce, and then when Leahy attempted to ease the ball past Underwood after linking with Gravata.

And further opportunities followed as United - although caught offside a few times - played some lovely attacking football.

Gravata was denied by the legs of Underwood after a terrific move involving Court, Davis and Leahy, while Luis Fernandez pulled off an excellent recovery tackle to deny Leahy an open goal after Underwood charged out of his area.

Hampton weren’t without their chances in a good, open game.
