Tonbridge Angels 1 Enfield Town 2 match report: Eddie Simon’s third goal in two games in vain as Angels remain winless in National League South
Tonbridge lost to Enfield in a battle of two winless sides in National League South.
A home game against fellow strugglers Enfield offered Angels their best chance yet to pick up a first victory.
But it was the Towners who took the points on a disappointing evening for Craig Nelson’s men who again looked good on the ball at times without causing too many problems.
Bayley Brown opened the scoring for the visitors and while Eddie Simon levelled, Sam Youngs restored the lead before half-time.
That was enough for Enfield, who punished Angels’ defensive frailties.
Tonbridge made four changes to the side who drew 3-3 with Farnborough at the weekend.
Jack Matton, Bradley Williams, Jordan Higgs and Broady Peart came in for Arthur Penney, Matty Warren, Scott Wagstaff and Martell Taylor-Crossdale.
Bobby Unwin went on a lively run past several players in the opening stages, Marcus Sablier showed some nice touches and Angels made a conscious effort to pick out Peart down the right.
Despite a reasonable opening for the hosts, they fell behind in the 12th minute through a smart turn and finish from Brown after Nino Adom-Malaki’s cross was met by Lamar Reynolds.
Youngs missed a chance to add a second from another Adom-Malaki cross as Enfield enjoyed a good spell before Simon levelled with his third goal in two games.
Sablier was the provider with a good run and pass in behind the defence for Simon to latch on to and coolly beat Rhys Forster in the 25th minute.
Tonbridge’s vulnerability from balls in the box cost them again, however, as Enfield went back in front 11 minutes before the break as Youngs beat frustrated keeper Jacob Adams.
