Tonbridge Angels sack manager Craig Nelson after only 11 games in charge and with the team on a four-match unbeaten run
Tonbridge have sacked manager Craig Nelson after just 11 games in charge - and after their best result of the season.
Angels won 1-0 at much-fancied Worthing on Saturday to move up to 15th in National League South, above local rivals Maidstone.
The result extended their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions, including back-to-back away wins in the league.
They also progressed in the FA Cup in that time, thrashing Steyning Town 6-1 in a replay following a 2-2 draw.
But despite their good recent form, Nelson finds himself out of a job.
He went seven games without a win after taking charge but there were mitigating circumstances, with Nelson learning a new level after joining from Isthmian Premier Lewes.
The year before that, he was working in the Southern Counties East League as manager of Glebe.
The decision seems incredibly harsh but Tonbridge have decided to go in a different direction.
Chair Sophie Purves said: “We are sad we have had to make this difficult decision, but the board feels a change in manager is necessary in order to give us the best possible chance of maintaining our National League South status and secure the long-term future of the club.
“Craig is a great person and we would like to thank him for his efforts during his time at Tonbridge Angels. On behalf of everyone at the club, we wish Craig all the very best for his future endeavours in football.”
