Maidstone United 0 Maidenhead United 1 match report: Matt Robinson’s first-half goal settles National League South clash

Maidstone lost for the fourth game running - all without scoring - as Maidenhead took the points at the Gallagher.

Three of those defeats have come in National League South, along with an FA Cup second qualifying round exit.

Matt Robinson scored the only goal in the first half to give Maidenhead victory over the out-of-form hosts, who are six games without a win in all competitions.

George Elokobi named new signings Kweku Lucan, Hamzad Kargbo and the returning Antony Papadopoulos on the bench, the trio having joined only yesterday.

But with Maidstone trailing at the break, the Stones boss wasted no time in turning to Papadopoulos, who’s rejoined on loan from Crawley until early February.

Lucan and Kargo followed by the midway point of the second half.

Both sides went into the game on the back of FA Cup defeats, with Maidstone beaten by Folkestone and Maidenhead suffering a shock 1-0 defeat by Isthmian South East Faversham.

George Fowler looked in commanding form early on as Maidstone reverted to a back four, while Riley Court impressed with his running in attack.

Court saw a 20-yard free-kick well saved low at the near post by Magpies keeper Jordi van Stappershoef and it was his ball across the face of goal that just evaded Jephte Tanga when any sort of touch would have done.

Deon Moore had the ball in the net with a neat finish from another Court pass but the linesman’s flag went up for offside, while Ruben Carvalho tested van Stappershoef after cutting inside and letting fly from 30 yards.

Maidstone were probably on top when Maidenhead broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute.

Robinson hammered home the loose ball after Nathan Harness parried ex-Stones defender Will De Havilland’s flick from a Jordan Ragguette long throw.
