Tom Lawrence ramps up Rangers injury return as Michael Beale 'keen' on more minutes after B team cameo

Tom Lawrence returned to action for Rangers but must continue to get minutes to force his way in to Michael Beale's plans.

That was the reveal from Gers' B team manager David McCallum who believes the 'experience' of the former Derby county man proved to be invaluable for his side in a 4-2 win over Hamilton. Lawrence has been through intermittent injury hell since arriving at Ibrox in the summer of 2021 but played an integral in getting the Light Blues in to the Champions League this time last campaign against PSV Eindhoven but has been on the sidelines for over a year.

And while the 29-year-old looked set return after pre-season, he suffered a setback in training and seems to be some away from gracing the Ibrox turf again. But an outing in the B team saw the midfielder net against Hamilton, with the likes of defenders Leon King and Johnly Yfeko also in action. McCallum revealed that Lawrence must continue to work his way back to Beale's top squad, but that his wisdom will help his side tenfold.

He told Rangers TV: "We had Tom Lawrence in there, it was important for him to get back on the pitch and game environments. Obviously the manager was keen for him to get minutes on the pitch. Tom coming to the group was excellent, speaking to the lads and sharing his experience. It's something we spoke to him before the game and it's something he enjoyed.

"That's what these games are about when we get a player dropping down to the squad it's important. Ultimately, this group, this game is to facilitate the moments and opportunities that they're ready to go as and when the manager needs them."
