Todd Cantwell should face Rangers BAN as playmaker told Aberdeen 'dive' means he won't shake 'cheat' tag

Todd Cantwell should face a two-game BAN for Rangers for his diving antics at Pittodrie.

That is the unwavering view of Record Sport columnist and former Hibernian striker Tam McManus who reckons the fact the playmaker avoided further reprimand for what appeared to be a clear dive against Aberdeen is tantamount to 'cheating'. Cantwell was found out as he drove through a sea of Dons bodies and threw himself to the floor in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Barry Robson's men. It was the least of the referee and VAR drama from the game, with Cantwell hooked by Rangers boss Philippe Clement as the game drew on.

It earned the blast from former referee Steve Conroy calling Cantwell a "cheat", while co-commentator James McFadden told the live broadcast he felt the 25-year-old had been "absolutely ridiculous" with his actions. But now McManus is calling for him to face a retrospective ban and picked out an incident in Hearts' game with St Johnstone as another one for the sin bin.

He told PLZ Soccer: "It's embarrassing, he should get cited for that. He should get a two-game ban for that. I was looking back to 2017, Alex Schalk against Celtic...he went down and dived in the box and they got the last minute equaliser in the penalty up at Ross County. He got a two-game retrospective ban.

"Not just Cantwell, the boy Vargas at Hearts was equally as bad, both of them should get cited and given two-game bans. It's just cheating in my opinion."
