Jose Cifuentes deals Rangers ANOTHER injury blow but Todd Cantwell comes to rescue for Aberdeen showpiece

Jose Cifuentes has added to Rangers mounting injury woes with the club unsure when he'll be back fit.

But there's better news on Todd Cantwell ahead of the Viaplay Cup final with Philippe Clement confirming he could be back available after missing their trip to Seville for personal reasons. Gers take on Aberdeen at Hampden, both sides flying off their Euro results and hoping to lift the first available silverware of the season. Clement and his team beat Real Betis to win their Europa League group and did it with a depleted squad.

Midfield was especially short of options for Clement as he was without Cantwell, Tom Lawrence, Nicolas Raskin and Ryan Jack. That meant John Lundstram and Jose Cifuentes were the only available midfielders, an issue which was exacerbated even further at half-time when Cifuentes went off with a muscular injury.

Dujon Sterling replaced him and put in a shift out of position for the second half in Spain. And while that's an option Clement says he'll have no problems turning to this weekend if he needs to, he's hoping Cantwell will be available to play.

He said ahead of the game: "Todd Cantwell trained today so there is a chance he will be there tomorrow. Jose Cifuentes will be injured - we are unsure how long for. Scott Wright is available, as is Leon King.

"Dujon Sterling is a versatile player, he is a good defender but has good feet and is very physical. I was looking for a solution from injuries and sometimes players need to play out of the box - he did this."
