Todd Cantwell 'pull' sparks Rangers penalty scare as Aberdeen flashpoint earns 'taking chances' verdict

Alan Hutton has conceded that Rangers star Todd Cantwell should not have taken a chance with a pull in the box on Aberdeen star Stefan Gartenmann.

With the Viaplay Cup Final deadlocked amid the Hampden downpour, the Dons defender attempted to break free from the attention of the Ibrox playmaker and get on the end of a corner. However, the Aberdeen star appeared to be pulled back before referee Don Robertson would award a foul the opposite way as Ester Sokler clattered into Ibrox captain James Tavernier.

And while on commentary, Michael Stewart put former Rangers star Alan Hutton on the spot over the left off - with the flashpoint not being deemed worthy of sending Robertson to the monitor by the VAR team. Speaking on Viaplay, the former Hearts and Hibs star joked: 'Was that shoulder-to-shoulder?"

Hutton conceded: "There is a little pull in there. I think you need to be very careful nowadays with VAR in operation.

"You just need to be careful at corners. Nowadays you can't take those chances. With cameras everywhere you will give away fouls and you know you can do that. Back in our day you would have got away with it, eh Michael?"
