Third Wolves exit imminent as Bruno Lage favourite confirms he ‘hasn’t reached an agreement’

Romain Saiss has all but confirmed his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers after six years with the club.

Saiss is set to follow John Ruddy and Marcal out of the door after confirming he has failed to ‘reach an agreement’ over a new contract. The defender, christened the ‘Moroccan Maldini’ by Bruno Lage, was a regular in Wolves’ starting line-up last season and will need to be replaced.

Joao Moutinho remains in contract talks with Wolves, who are keen to keep the veteran midfielder. Bruno Lage told last week that it’s a case of putting ‘all the parts’ together.

But Saiss’s future now looks certain to be away from Molineux. The 32-year-old has offers from numerous clubs around Europe, with a return to France on the cards.

"Maybe a week or two ago, I was closer to leaving than staying," Saiss told Brut in an interview recorded last week. "Unfortunately, today that is probably what will happen.

"That's it, I'm probably going to leave the club because I haven't reached an agreement. Unfortunately, our paths are likely to separate."

Saiss joined Wolves from Angers six years ago and became a mainstay in the starting line-up under Nuno Espirito Santo after failing to see eye-to-eye with predecessor Paul Lambert. The Moroccan played alongside Ruben Neves in midfield as Wolves won the Championship, before proving himself capable in defence in the Premier League.

Saiss added: "It's a source of pride for me to have achieved everything I've achieved here with Wolverhampton, where, when I arrived, it was a second-class club in the Championship, and we succeeded to climb to the top of the Premier League, to play in the Europa League, so it's magnificent."
