Wolves braced for £25m Chelsea offer as Rangers star sparks transfer frenzy

Chelsea have reportedly joined the race for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Ait-Nouri.

French full-back Ait-Nouri enjoyed an impressive season at Wolves and continued his development under Bruno Lage. The 21-year-old was initially signed on loan from Angers in 2020 before Wolves made the move permanent for around £10 million last summer.

He made 23 appearances in the Premier League last term after convincing Lage to put him ahead of experienced alternative Marcal in the pecking order. Ait-Nouri recorded one goal and four assists across all competitions for Wolves in 2021/22.

The defender has long been courted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs and Manchester City are reportedly monitoring his situation. However, fresh reports claim Chelsea are now looking at Ait-Nouri as a potential replacement for Marcos Alonso - who looks set to return to Spain after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

Offers in the region of £25m will reportedly be considered by Wolves. Wolves wouldn’t be entitled to all of that fee with Angers understood to hold a 50 percent sell-on clause on Ait-Nouri. Wolves do, however, have an agreement with Angers which allows them to buy out the sell-on clause should they wish to.

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has sparked confusion amongst supporters after seemingly posting an update on his Instagram account from Wolverhampton Wanderers’ training ground.

The 22-year-old defender was promoting a luxury chauffeur service and included his current location as Wolves’ Compton Park training base. Bassey has since deleted the post from his Instagram story.
