The Scotland U21 stars who could STILL make Euro 2024 as Steve Clarke set to watch several youngsters closely

Scot Gemmill will remind his Scotland Under-21 stars a place on the plane for Germany 2024 is not out of reach as they gear up for a huge Euros qualifier of their own.

With Steve Clarke fine tuning his squad for this summer’s showpiece a number of top talents in Gemmill’s side are looking to catch his eye. Sassuolo left-back Josh Doig, Sturm Graz midfielder Max Johnston, Bristol City goalscorer Tommy Conway, Manchester City playmaker Lewis Fiorini and Rangers midfielder Leon King have all been called up over the past year but are back in the U21s with just over two months to go before Clarke names his final selection for Germany.

And ahead of Thursday night’s qualifier against Kazakhstan in Paisley, Gemmill said he will remind his players of the carrot dangling in front of their faces - even though they are wise enough to realise it themselves.

Gemmill said: “I don’t feel the need to do that as a planned approach - but I probably will say or remind them how close they are. I want there to be a sense of occasion when we play on Thursday to get that intensity within the team’s performance.

“That’s part of my and my staff’s responsibility. So of course we use everything to try and get that so it’s in the performance. They are all intelligent players, they know how close they are and they know how closely Steve watches our games. So of course it is a huge carrot, right there in front of them and they have to use these games as all the games.. anything can happen in that regard.

"It is for the players to show quality on a consistent basis and it is fair to say they have all shown. It is the challenge for all young players, you have to do it consistently between now and the end of the season and I would say that applies to
