'The problem is no longer with us' - Borussia Dortmund break silence on Jadon Sancho loan talks with Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says he is optimistic that a short-term loan deal for Jadon Sancho can be struck with Manchester United as negotiations continue.

Talks are nearing a conclusion but Watzke said his club are not ready to announce a deal just yet. MEN Sport understands that final but important details of the move are still being agreed, meaning Sancho has not been able to join up with the Dortmund winter training squad in Marbella.

The deal does not include an option-to-buy at the end of the season but Dortmund are expected to pay a small loan fee to help with wages. “We are in discussions with Manchester United. We want to bring him in on loan, that's no secret,” Watzke told reporters at the training camp, as per Sky Germany.

“We don't announce water level reports. The problem is no longer with us, we are in good communication with Manchester United. I am cautiously optimistic. We want to bring him over, but we are not yet at the point where we can announce results.”

Sancho has not played since August amid his fall out with Erik ten Hag. The winger has refused to apologise to his manager for accusing him of lying about the reasons why he was dropped from the squad against Arsenal on September 3.

In a now-deleted social media post, Sancho said he had been “scapegoated for a long time”, believing that he was axed for other reasons. Ten Hag stands by his comments about the player’s subpar training levels.

Despite this the manager has insisted that Sancho’s future at United is up to him, hinting that an apology may open the door back into the first-team
