Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho argues with Borussia Dortmund teammate over penalty

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho argued with his teammates over a penalty kick as he looked to score for the first time since returning to Borussia Dortmund.

The winger sealed a temporary move to Germany this month after being frozen out of United’s first team setup following a dispute with manager Erik ten Hag in September. It was Sancho’s phenomenal form for Dortmund that convinced United to snap up the 23-year-old for £73m in 2021, and he made an instant impact back in the Bundesliga by marking his second debut with an assist for Marco Reus in a 3-0 win over Darmstadt.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic rewarded Sancho with a place in the starting XI against Koln on Saturday and the United man was a central figure once more. After Donyell Malen had opened the scoring for Dortmund, Sancho drove into the box and was brought down by Rasmus Carstensen to win a penalty for his side in the 56th minute.

Following the foul, Sancho was seen debating with his teammates over who should take the spot kick and was reportedly heard demanding, “Give me the ball! Give me the ball!” Despite his protestations, striker Niclas Fullkrug ignored his request to slot in the penalty and double Dortmund’s advantage.

The pair shared a hug during the celebrations and when asked about the incident, Fullkrug explained: "Actually, we also have a small ranking. Normally I'm at the top with Marco [Reus] and Emre [Can]. Jadon would definitely have converted it, too. He really wanted to score his first goal for Dortmund again. That's coming next week."
