Who is Jacob Wright? Man City prospect earns Phil Foden praise and Jorginho comparison

Manchester City's famed academy have given the first team another player with Jacob Wright the latest youngster to make his full debut.

After Pep Guardiola declared earlier this season that there were no genuine options to call up from the academy after the better players were sold over the summer, he has since given City debuts to Micah Hamilton, Mahamadou Susoho and now Wright. He also would have brought on Max Alleyne at Red Star Belgrade had the scoreline been more comfortable.

Wright entered the FA Cup win over Huddersfield for the final 15 minutes, earning a roar from the fans and looking comfortable as he held the midfield on his own in Rodri's usual position. That is unsurprising given his tendency to score from his deep-lying position and behind-the-scenes comparisons from academy sources to Italy midfielder Jorginho, who City tried to sign in 2018.

Wright, an 18-year-old from Manchester, took to Instagram after his full debut to post: "Such a proud moment for me and my family to have made my debut for this amazing club. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way. Hopefully many more to come. The hard work continues."

The local lad has been a fixture in City's under-21 and under-19 squads this season after stepping up from the youth team last summer. He has predominantly played in midfield or defensive midfield, but has deputised at centre-back and right-back.

Facing competition from Susoho and Isaiah Dada-Mascoll in the number six position, Wright had to watch the former get a first team debut
