The new Man United transfer masterplan revealed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe after Jude Bellingham question

The new co-owner of Manchester United Sir Jim Ratcliffe has outlined a fresh transfer strategy for the club and taken a swipe at the Glazers.

Instead of splashing out huge sums on a few 'star players', Ratcliffe wants to focus on getting the right people in key positions behind the scenes before looking at player recruitment. He's already brought Sir Dave Brailsford on board to oversee operations at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have also appointed Omar Berrada as their new chief executive, with the current Manchester City boss set to take up his role in the summer. In addition, Dan Ashworth is nearing a move to become the club's sporting director.

Talks are still ongoing over compensation with Newcastle, but it's widely expected that Ashworth will complete his move soon. This is the kind of focus Ratcliffe wants for United, as he criticised the club's approach under the Glazers. When asked about signing players like Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham on The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast, Ratcliffe said: "He's a great footballer. But it's not where our focus is. The solution is not to spend a lot of money on a couple of great players. They've done that if you look at the last 10 years.

"The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes in the organising of the club. Then make can get recruitment right. It's such a vital part of a football club today, getting recruitment right. Which is finding new players.

"You need the right organisation and structure. You need to populate it with the people who are the best in class. Dave wouldn't profess to ever saying 'We need to buy that player'. That's not his skillset, but we need to have that skillset at Manchester United."
