Sir Jim Ratcliffe is doing what the Glazers wouldn't at Man Utd - and Gary Neville will be delighted

Manchester United's trip to Brentford this weekend will no doubt trigger unwanted flashbacks of their last visit to the Gtech Community Stadium.

After losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening day of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, United made the trip to the capital with the ambition of recording their first win of the Erik ten Hag era. Those ambitions were dead and buried by half-time.

United found themselves 4-0 down with just 35 minutes on the clock, leaving them bottom of the table. They were both outplayed and destroyed by a Brentford side that had only previously spent one season in the Premier League.

At full-time in west London, Sky Sports pundit and former United captain Gary Neville launched a scathing assessment of his former club. His rant went viral immediately, such was the level of passion and emotion it was built on.

Within it, Neville blasted the direction the club was heading in under the Glazers' stewardship, citing their mismanagement as a direct contributor to such a disastrous result on the pitch. He slammed their running of the club and lack of adequate investment.

"The embedded failure over a 10-year period of where the club is currently at has to come back to the ownership," said Neville. "I blamed Ed Woodward for a long time, but the reality is that the Glazer family left him in situ, when he should not have been left in situ in charge of the football side. Ed probably would have done a good job on the business side.
