The likely Dundee vs Rangers rearranged date as Celtic clash swings into view

Rangers arrived at Dens Park on a gloomy Sunday Tayside morning only to discover that their trip north was a wasted journey with their Scottish Premiership clash against Dundee called off.

It means Philippe Clement and his men miss the chance to reclaim top spot in the league, after rivals and champions Celtic jumped above them with a win over St Johnstone at Parkhead on Saturday.

The Light Blues now go into the international break in second position but with the Dundee game now in hand. And the timing of that could be crucial with supporters - the majority who, if travelling from Glasgow, had already set off - eagerly awaiting news of when the match will now take place. Clement himself will also be keen to know as he prepares for a massive period when club football resumes. The fact Rangers were eliminated from the Europa League at the hands of Benfica last week at least makes life easier for SPFL fixture schedulers who have had a nightmare in the past when the Light Blues were involved in Europe. That has at least freed up one midweek before the top flight splits after Rangers’ trip to Ross County on April 14.

The two available midweek dates are April 2/3 and April 9/10. The first comes just days before Rangers welcome Celtic to Ibrox for that massive Old Firm showdown on April 7 - and the second after the Hoops clash. Clement would almost certainly prefer a full week to prepare for the visit of the champions to Govan, albeit it would likely mean going into that game in second place, rather than have a midweek trip to Dens Park thrown in and run the risk of injuries. Rangers now resume league action when they take on Hibs at home on Saturday, March 30 and Clement will be watching with interest when the game is
