'The King of Belgium' - Joleon Lescott makes Vincent Kompany claim and Man City manager verdict

Joleon Lescott believes Vincent Kompany could make a successful run to become The King of Belgium, never mind a future Man City manager.

The Belgian wrote himself into the history books as one of City's greatest ever players and is now making his mark in management as he prepares for his return to the Premier League.

Kompany took over as player-manager at Anderlecht when he left Manchester four years ago, but after a tricky start, he stepped down from managerial decisions on the pitch before taking the job properly following his retirement a year later.

He enjoyed moderate success in Belgium before his incredible season with Burnley, winning Manager of the Season as his side won the Championship and secured promotion to the top-flight.

Kompany's reward will be a home clash with former side City on Friday night, and former teammate Lescott is not surprised at all to see how well he is doing.

"I think Vinny will forever be a legend at the club and well respected by the fans and players that he played with," he said. "I think everyone who knows Vinny is not surprised. Maybe you are surprised by the speed of what he has achieved, but in regards to what he will go on and do, it won't surprise anyone.

"I'm really close with Vinnie, and I think he was two weeks into the job when he told me he was going to be better at managing than he was playing. So, big statement, Vinnie!

"He was deadly serious, and you have to believe him because when he puts his mind to something, he leaves no stone unturned. And like I said, this isn't a surprise to me."
