Manchester United have long held their place in history as the biggest football club in England, attracting young talent from across the globe. Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are among the latest crop of young talents making their way at Old Trafford.

Though the summer transfer window closed last month, the Reds continue to be linked with a number of transfers, with Sunderland's wonderkid midfielder Chris Rigg the latest up and coming talent attracting the attention of the Manchester United hierarchy.

Who is the 17-year-old and why is he catching the eye? To understand just how long the Reds have tracked the up-and-coming midfielder, you must go back to July 2022 when the 14-year-old began to make a name for himself.

Rigg helped Sunderland's Under-15 side win the Super Floodlit Cup with a 4-2 win over Crystal Palace in the final, who had won the competition the year prior. The youngster, who grew up in South Tyneside in Hebburn, scored a magnificent free-kick to help the Black Cats win the prestigious competition. United were among a number of Premier League scouts to have taken in that game and since then, there's been no looking back.

Local rivals Newcastle United have repeatedly tried to lure Rigg to St. James' Park, sending Peter Beardsley to watch the midfielder as a youngster. Rigg's family are huge Newcastle United supporters, but that has never gotten in the way of his red and white footballing career.

Called up to Sunderland's first-team at just 15-years-old, former boss Tony Mowbray handed the youngster his debut from the bench in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury in January 2023,
