Thomas Tuchel England 'talks' leave Man United and Ineos with one iconic choice

The Football Association's reported talks with Thomas Tuchel about the vacant England head coach position have thrown a spanner in the works for Manchester United should they decide to replace under-pressure boss Erik Ten Hag.

United chiefs held a board meeting in London last week amid speculation surrounding Ten Hag's future at the club, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos deciding sticking with the 54-year-old former Ajax boss - for now, at least.

That is despite the current campaign being the Reds' worst start to a league season since the 1989-90 campaign. Many observers believe Ten Hag's time at Old Trafford is nearing an end, with just eight points taken from their opening seven Premier League games.

The Manchester Evening News recently asked readers who they thought should take over from the struggling United boss, with Tuchel the clear favourite with 24 per cent of votes in our poll of over 13,000 respondents.

That leaves one clear cut candidate who MEN readers would like to see replace Ten Hag: Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane received 19% of votes in our poll, the second highest on our list behind Tuchel.

The former Los Blancos boss has been out of work since leaving Real for a second time in 2021. The French icon won two La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, two Supercopa de Espana, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups
