The 3 point Celtic case behind Yang red card appeal as club await SFA reasoning behind rebuff

Yang's red card appeal was thrown out by the SFA with details of Celtic's case made to the Hampden chiefs now emerging.

The winger was given his marching orders in the Premiership champions' 2-0 defeat to Hearts after he caught Alex Cochrane in the face with a high boot. Referee Don Robertson had initially booked the South Korea international but was sent to the pitchside monitor to review the flashpoint by John Beaton in the VAR room - which saw whistler Robertson upgrade the yellow card to a red.

Raging Brendan Rodgers took aim at the "awful" officiating and singled out Beaton in particular following the full-time whistle - with the club also stating they were writing to the SFA to express their concerns over the performance of the match officials. However, following an appeal, the governing body rejected the appeal and Yang will now miss the Scottish Cup clash with Livingston as well as the league showdown with St Johnstone.

Celtic hit out at the decision in a club statement branding it "disappointing". The Hoops had argued that Yang was trying to flick the ball over the head of Hearts star Cochrane and did not attempt to make a tackle.

Celtic chiefs also made the case that there was no excessive force used by the 21-year-old during the incident. The club also claim Beaton and the VAR team should not have been involved as man in the middle Robertson had not made a clear and obvious error.

However, the three-person panel disagreed with Celtic following the hearing. Parkhead officials are expected to receive a written explanation over the decision this week.
