John McGinn reveals to England international the exact reason why Scotland cannot stomach watching the Three Lions

It's not just Scotland fans who get wound up by the usual England love in when our neighbours are on terrestrial TV.

John McGinn is sick of it as well, and gave it to Aston Villa and Three Lions striker Ollie Watkins straight when he asked the Tartan Army talisman why he didn't want Gareth Southgate's men to succeed, even with fellow Villains in the squad. Watkins is in from the start at Wembley as England take on Brazil on Saturday evening, 24 hours after McGinn was on the end of a heavy but undeserved 4-0 defeat to the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

And while Watkins is happy for the Scots to pick up wins when McGinn is in the team, the former St Mirren and Hibs star couldn't bring himself to be quite as supportive with the roles reversed. Club loyalty goes out the window for McGinn when it comes to England, and while he'd be happy to see Watkins on the scoresheet, it's only if he ends up on the losing side, given the less-than-neutral viewing experience viewers north of the border are subjected to.

Watkins: "I want Ginny to win if we're not playing against them."

McGinn: "Do you?"

Watkins: "Not the competition, I mean his game."

McGinn: "But you want Scotland to win? When you're watching Scotland?"

Watkins: "Yeah. If you're playing, I don't want you to lose."

McGinn: "I would want you to get beat if you were playing for England."

Watkins: "What? Why?"

McGinn: "Mate, in Scotland right, you need to watch it on the tele. So you put on channel three, mate, it's like all English pundits, all English commentators saying 'us'. And you're like: 'We're paying our TV licence here,' know what I mean? Get some new pundits, new commentators and then we can maybe wnat you to do better. But it's a rivalry mate!"
