Supercomputer's concerning Man United Champions League qualification prediction after Crystal Palace loss

Manchester United's chances of qualifying for the Champions League via the Premier League are slim according to Opta's Supercomputer.

United's start to the season has been sub-par so far and continued on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. Joachim Andersen scored the only goal of the game on 25 minutes thanks to a superb volley which took a slight deflection off Diogo Dalot to deceive Andre Onana.

The Reds pushed for an equaliser in the second 45 but found it difficult to break down a stubborn Palace team who returned to London with all three points. Erik ten Hag's side have nine points to their name after seven matches and sit 10th as pressure continues to grow on the Dutchman.

With the Premier League table starting to take shape, Opta's Supercomputer has been tallying where each team will finish based on their results so far and performances to date. Unfortunately, the results do not make good reading for those of a Red persuasion.

While it is hard to call where United will finish this early, the analysis has concluded 8th is the most likely finish for the club with a 17.1 per cent chance calculated. 9th (16.7 per cent), 7th (15.7 per cent) and 6th (11.6 per cent) are the other likely positions for the Reds but it is worth noting none of those spots will lead to Champions League football.

Currently United have just a 4.3 per cent chance of finishing 4th, 1.3 per cent chance of finishing 3rd and a practically impossible 0.3 per cent chance of finishing second.
